TMEIC to Upgrade Controls on Paper Mill in Chile

ROANOKE, Va. (September 26, 2016)
– TMEIC Corporation has been awarded the contract to upgrade controls on the Number 19 paper machine at the CMPC paper mill in Maule, Chile. This machine currently produces 360,000 tons per year of carton board, used to make strong packing boxes for products such as detergents and foodstuffs.

As part of this major upgrade, a significant number of existing variable frequency drives will be replaced with TMEIC’s new TMdrive-10e2 coordinated drives and associated three-phase AC motors will be replaced. Three large motors, two at 500 kW and one at 750 kW, powering fan pump blowers will be changed. Additionally, new switchgear and electrical panels will be supplied.

The control system will be upgraded with TMEIC’s new industrial controllers, HMI servers, client PCs, and the latest software. Touch screen stations will also be installed for operators closest to the paper machine.

With TMEIC solutions playing an integral role in the reform project of the paper machine, production capacity is expected to increase to 450,000 tons per year, a 25 percent production increase. The final mill startup is scheduled for 2018.
